- The first step for any individual who wishes to follow the field of Fictional Writing is to plan out an idea. Think about what you want to write about before you actually do it. No idea is a bad one, create what you would like to write about.
- Don’t be afraid to look up another person’s writings. Chances are you will find a format that you like that fits you as a future writer.
- Start with a rough draft of what you want to write. That way if you make any grammar mistakes or if you don’t like something you can erase or edit until it feels perfect for you.
- Create a character or a few characters that readers find enjoyable. They should be relatable and have a place in the story that draws the reader to them.
- Think of a plot and a theme to the story. We should get to know why everything is happening and what type of world are we in.
- Give us a setting. It can be either a real location or a made up one. The era doesn’t matter but the reader should be able to get a grasp on the environment that the story revolves around.
- The story could have a message no matter how small it may be. That will show that we can learn a personal lesson despite the fictional aspect of the story.
- Create an air of mystery in the story. If a reader is curious about something than they will crave more of the story. It would be also good to extend the length of the mystery until either the middle or the finale, so that a sense of suspense is added.
- Do not fear other people’s opinion on your work. If you feel that what you have is good than keep it. It is your story after all.
- Do not fear criticism or being questioned about certain topics in your story. Sometimes what others say can be helpful in improving on your work and finding your mistakes, even if it is negative.
- Think of a creative ending. It should wrap up the main conflict of the story and leave an impression on the reader. Cliffhangers are fine but they should make sense.
- Remain calm and just write. Don’t allow distractions like believing that your work isn’t good disrupt your flow. Often times a writer can come up with new thoughts while they work.
- Work with confidence. Have faith that your work is interesting and allow others to read it. Chances are you might inspire someone else for your efforts.
- Don’t limit yourself. Your stories may have the potential to become something more. Keep climbing high until you can reach your peak.
